Over the river and through the woods…

“If you were to ask what is most important in a home, I would say happy memories.” ~Lilian Gish

What is everyone doing this week??  Really?!! Do I have to ask??!! Everyone is busy, I am sure. Lots to do. Prepare food, clean, find the best table setting, and of course a centerpiece. Maybe you don’t host Thanksgiving dinner, but you are going to Grandmother’s house. What do you bring? In our home we always have certain people that bring certain dishes or desserts. Is it that way in your family as well. You can always count on Aunt Jane for her famous apple pie or whoopie pies? Oh now I did it. I can  feel my eyes tearing up. I am going to miss my sister again.  You see we always shared ALL holidays together. Her family and ours. Since we lost our parents so many years ago now, we have always been together. Until we moved across country that is.She will celebrate with her family and her new granddaughter in New England and we will celebrate here in Sunny California. Well another year apart, we will call and talk on the phone.

We will be hosting this year and most of our children will be here. One of our daughters will be going down to the San Francisco Bay area to be with the inlaws. We will miss them, but they will be back to do our annual Black Friday shopping. That is a new tradition we have started in the last few years, since we have been in California. I never went before, I would always stay home and decorate for Christmas that day. New place, new traditions, life is good. Well today we will have the grandchildren for a little bit so mom and dad can have a little date. We have some fun things panned since we won’t see them on Thanksgiving. Layla and I are going to make cranberry orange bread and Isaiah and Grandpa will be working in the shop. Fun times, new memories, life is good. Did I already say that??!!  Life changes, we can’t go back, but we can enjoy the memories.

Raise the song of harvest home;

all is safely gathered in,

ere the winter storms begin.”

  3. Hi Sara, My sisters and I take turns hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our different homes. And yes we all do have our same dishes that we bring each year. I am so excited, we give small gifts to the little ones. It is my family's Christmas, since we all can't get together on Christmas. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving. You have your home decorated so lovely! hugs, Lecia

  5. Oh Sara, even though it is inevitable, I hate change.I like things to stay the same, especially if they are going good. I miss people who are no longer with us and people who can't make it home. I agree with Lillian Gish, memories are the best thing we can make in a home. SO glad I visited you today. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Enjoy the grands. Andrew and I will be making Christmas cookies soon.
