Loving Life

Today I am so thankful for the Easter Holiday that we just celebrated. I am Thankful for my God; that He sent His one and only Son to die for me a sinner. (John 3:16) Thankful for my family, to see all of them there in church on Easter Sunday was such a blessing! Thankful that the sickness "stayed away" that morning, and that I was able to see my 3 grandchildren enjoying the excitement of Easter and seeing the joy in them.

Here is a quote that I had to share ~ "I believe in manicures. I believe in over dressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe that loving is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles." ~ Audrey Hepburn

Easter recipes

After a busy Easter weekend, I just wanted to share a few recipes and pics from the day. One of the favorites of one of my sons is watergate salad. He would like this at each and every holiday dinner, although we usually reserve this for spring. I is a sugary fluffy side dish that goes quite well with our ham and turkey. The ingredients for watergate salad are: cool whip; pistachio pudding mix; one can of crushed pineapple; and a few miniature marshmallows. All you do is combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well, it is pretty simple to do and we usually let the younger children mix it up. Something else that I tried this year is a bunny bread, it begins with frozen bread dough which I usually make into rolls, but this year I wanted to try something different. I began by thawing the bread dough until it was soft and I then cut it into different size pieces, and arranged it onto a greased cookie sheet. I added cloves for the eyes and nose, but you could use raisins or anything else. Enjoy y0ur day! ~ Sara

chicken soup and biscuits

Today was a quick turn from preparing for Easter to take care of some sick family. We moved to California a few years ago when our daughters married, moved and had grandchildren. One of the reasons for being here is so we are able to "be here" for them when they needed us. Well today was one of those days. I know too well how hard it is to care for the family when you are under the weather yourself. So today I made chicken soup and biscuits and will be delivering it to my daughter and her husband, hopefully they will be feeling well enough to eat some. My little granddaughter is here (sound asleep) and has been since yesterday and will be here until they are better. She has been such fun to have, she loves Barney, loves to play outside, and loves to shop. While she is napping I have managed to put together a "bunny bread" for Easter. One thing at a time to check of the long list, we are getting there. I am sure that when my other two grandchildren arrive later today to spend the holiday weekend, they will be surprised to see the bunny bread all cooked and waiting for them. Life is too short to not enjoy all of the little joys in life that the family has to offer! I am looking forward to spending time with the "kiddos", young and old, coloring eggs, preparing food and enjoying the company. A busy weekend for sure leading up to Easter Sunday, with a sunrise service, Easter Breakfast, church with special music by the family, Easter Dinner and an Easter Egg hunt! Wow, a full weekend of LOVE! Enjoy your day! ~ Sara

Ceramic Eggs

~As we draw closer to Easter I am reminded of so many things that I am thankful for. So many memories of celebrations as my children were growing up. Preparing Easter clothes... the little suits, white shirts and bow ties that would adorn my little boys. The Cinderella dresses, little white lace socks, hats, gloves, pocket books for two sweet little girls with their hair in curls and ribbons and bows. As they grew and had a little more say about their "outfits" there was usually a lot of discussion, but in the end the choices that they made were very suitable for a mom that was so thrilled to be seated in a pew at church with all of her little children surrounding her.

Each year we bring out our ceramic eggs. These are the eggs that I designed for my husband and I and for our four children. There is one for each with the names on the back.

~Years ago my Aunt Peggy had a ceramic studio and she gave lessons. A few of us ladies from the family used to gather on Monday nights for "therapy" as Aunt Peggy would call it. You see we were going through a rough time in our life., my mom had been diagnosed with cancer and she was the glue that held the family together as most moms do. We would gather and talk and support each other all the while making cute little artistic designs. I guess that is why traditions are so important to us, they represent all of the changing times in our life and it is a little piece of stability we can hold onto as the world swirls us round like a spinning top- kinda like a hug..................... Happy Tradition making in your family ~Sara

Prim Bunny

I just wanted to share with you another project that I have been working on. This new "Bunny" started out with just a thought in my head. I need to convey the thought to my wonderful husband who then cuts and builds the projects for me. Getting to the end result is usually a long process, but this one came together quickly. He is now hanging on my fence all ready to celebrate Easter!!!

These pictures show some of the steps getting from the first step to the end result. I think he is quite handsome. Thanks for stopping by.

Preparing for Easter Week

~busy times ahead this week!! Where to begin?? Well let's see, there is cleaning to be done, shopping, baking and cooking. Phew, exhausted just thinking of it, but it will be worth it all!! To begin I think I will make a list, I always work well with a list because I can empty my busy little mind of all of the jumbling list of ingredients it takes to pull together family holidays. We have several traditions that we try to keep, and they are different for each holiday. For Easter, of course we have an Easter egg hunt. We have always done this as long as I can remember. I have older simplings with children, and so as I was growing up there were gatherings and Easter Egg hunts with nieces and nephews. When my children were younger we started some of our own traditions and the children "included" some of there own as well.

One of the traditions is to bring out our resurection eggs! These are regular plastic eggs in a carton, but inside each egg is a surprise. The eggs are numbered one to twelve, and inside each are llittle tokens that tell the Easter story for children. Begining with number one- a little replica of a donkey representing Jesus' entry into Jerusalem(Matthew 21:1-9), number five is a cross representing the cross for which He died to take away the sin of the world(John 3:16), number nine is an empty egg which reminds us of the empty tomb(Matthew 28:5-8) and number twelve is a cotton ball representing His ascension through the clouds(Luke 24:51-53). We have tried to do this each year and as the children grew, we would gather with some of their cousins and "play" together and each child would take and egg and tell the story to us in their own words. This was always a fun time as you can find out what the children really feel and think about the meaning of Easter. I am truly bless now to have grandchildren to share these with. Our oldest grandchild is only three and a half this year, but we still have gone through them with her in the past letting her explore each egg and telling the story. My son asked me last year "don't you think she is a little young to understand it?" my relpy was that this is how we started with you when you were young. We don't wait until children are in their teens and then expect them to know and understand everything. We start young and each year add a little more "understanding" to the world.

Well I think I got a little carried away with all of that info, but I know it is of use to someone. Thank you for taking the time to explore my blog and I will be sharing more traditions and pictue in the next few days.
