Sharing what I have won

This is the caption under the photo:
My inspiration for decorating my house is to step back in time when life was simpler and generations of family gathered to enjoy each other’s company. I can remember a time on Memorial Day (Decoration Day as my Grandpa Fagan called it), when he would bring us to the parade and instruct us to cover our heart as the American Flag passed by. My home reflects the patriotic theme and is comfy and welcoming to all who enter.

Today I was really excited when I went to the mailbox and found a package. Everyone loves getting packages in the mail! As I carefully opened it I could tell there was a fragrance coming from the box, mmm. As I opened it I found a wonderful candle, a cute hanging snowman and a little wooden simplify block. This box came from Lone Crow Mercantile from North Carolina. Cathy had started a new facebook page and to get interest in the page she held a decorating contest. The contest was that you had to have a photo, state your decorating style or what inspires you, then you had to have the most comments about your photo. I have to say I was really overwhelmed by all of the nice comments about my room, I try to make my home welcoming for all who enter so it was really nice to get all of the wonderful feedback. I have such great friends and family who are always supporting me.

The photo below is the picture that was submitted and the other pic is the goodies that I have received.....Thank you to every one especially Cathy at Lone Crow Mercantile, I know that she is a very busy lady, and has taken time out to send me these nice "goodies"! So if you are ever in Benson, North Carolina please look her up.

Thanks for your support ~Sara

Salmon Falls Pottery

~I absolutely love pottery and I have quite a collection of Salmon Falls Pottery all around my house. I started collecting it when it was a small company, called Pottery by Andy.

Years ago when the children were little, my sister and I would take a small amount of our budgeted grocery allowance and take an outing to see what we could find for pottery seconds.

Over the years my collection has grown. There were the Birthday and Anniversary gifts, Mothers Day...well you get the point. As I started snapping pics of it all, I just was so unaware of everything that I had collected over the years. I first thought of the lamp next to our beds in the master bedroom, then as I was looking around low and behold it started appearing everywhere, and in every room. The kitchen, the dining room, living room and even the bathroom with my lotion dispensers. I haven't even included the Christmas mugs, plates, ornaments....I guess I will save those for another time. I know there are others stashed away in the hutch's as well. I hope you enjoy the pottery as much as I do. If you ever find yourself in Dover, NH, take a drive over to the railway station on Broadway and have yourself a look. It is so interesting to see the process being hand made right there on the premises. Have a blessed day! ~Sara

a new bread box

~ when you begin to "re-decorate" and you change one item in the house, your turn and look and behold ....something else needs an update. This new item came along as necessity. As long as I can remember I have used a basket as a bread box. In my earlier days it was a large basket that we had purchased on our travels to Bucks County, PA. when we were first married. It was very useful and sat on the counter covered with a pretty tea towel. When we moved the basket....well ...it didn't come with us. So I have been using a small basket and as the family is growing and changing and we now can "entertain", the small basket just wasn't "big enough". I have always wanted a bread box, but never seemed to find something I liked. So again, the ideas started rolling and I knew what I wanted in my head, I just needed to get the ideas out. The first step was a trip to a home improvement store. I found the perfect "hardware"! I knew what color I wanted and I knew it had to be large. The rest I left up to my loving husband and together we compromised on the final result. A large red bread box, able to hold bread and all of those other products that usually clutter the counter. I simply love this bread box, even though it is quite large and takes up a big space on the counter. But I especially love that the counter space is left uncluttered, and it fits perfectly with my primitive decorating. Thank you for stopping by~ Sara

"God Bless America"

~A few pictures of a little patriotic
decorating. Taking time to remember
all of the sacrifices that our troops make everyday to give us the freedoms that we take for granted.

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.
