Fall……

 

I knew it ….Fall would come and I would be so busy. Well there is good busy and there is bad busy. I have been good busy. You see my daughter son-in-law and two grandchildren are going to be moving close by. We have had several visits and they are here staying with us to find a new home. They now live about four hours away, but he has accepted a new job with the government at a dam nearby and they will be moving within a month, I am so excited!! Besides that  we have a show in a few weeks (I haven’t done one in years), I have been trying to created some new items, work on special orders and …..decorate for fall!! I only have a few pics for now, but wanted to share something and I will  be back with more soon.

Every Little Girl Wants To Be A Princess….

Every little girl wants to be a princess…….it isn’t something that we have to teach them. It comes from inside, it is who they are. It is what makes them ….well …. girls.

They want to dress up, and put on fancy clothes and jewelry. They want to be pretty and they want to be like their mommy. They want to “pretend” to be mommy and care for their “babies”. To tuck them in at night and to dress them in pretty clothes.

Well all little girls need a bed for their baby. Somewhere to keep her “tucked in at night” while they are asleep. Somewhere “pretty” and comfy. With all of the comforts that their own bed has.

Someplace to hold all of the dolls clothing and accessories.  Someplace that is beautiful inside as well as outside.

Well this is what we have created. An Armoire and a beautiful comfy bed all designed to accommodate an 18 inch doll. (American Girl Doll). This set is “pretty in Pink”, all decked out in lace,  pink,  flowers,  you know, all of the things that little girls “love”!. The Armoire is aprox  22”high and about 14'” wide, it has two hinged doors and has plenty of room inside to store all of the little clothing, shoes, hats (and also extra pillows for the bed as my granddaughter did. I guess she thought that there were too many on the bed.LOL ). Also when you open the door, Cinderella is there to greet you.This  bed has lace around the bottom as a dust ruffle, a large pillow mattress, a comforter and several pillows( all hand sewn).

The next bedroom set is going to be a little less pink. I am going to design one a little more primitive looking to go with my décor so when the grandchildren come to visit they will have something to play with. And maybe when the grandchildren aren’t here I will be able to “play “a little and keep some of my dollies on the bed.

Speaking of Princesses ~ I wanted to share with you my granddaughters 4th Birthday Party. Of course it was a princess party and it was at a park near us. It was a beautiful day. the sun was shining, there was a nice breeze when we arrived, it was on the river and such a nice place to be. There was a nice little play area for the children and lots of shade for the adults. We had pizza and fruit, princess cake and ice cream, walked by the water played on the slide and of course Grandma took “LOTS” of pictures!! I won’t bore you with all of the pictures(I think my son said I took somewhere around 80 pics. lol)

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice……

……..you know the rest!! Little girls. Yes this is a short little post to let you see what I have spent my week working on. It has been a girly week! First in the picture is a “pink” child’s  picnic table. This was a special order for a co-worker of  hubby’s. He has two young daughters and  he said he wanted it pink and “girly”, well I think I have achieved that goal.  What do you think??

This weekend is also the birthday party for my four year old granddaughter. We have been creating something special just for her, but the party isn’t til Sunday, so if you check back on Monday, I am sure that I will have a few pics here for you. She is also a “girly girl” and likes anything princess. She is just a beautiful little thing (all grandmothers would say that you know, and they absolutely have to!), blonde curly hair and “big” beautiful blue eyes with long eye lashes.

…..and well maybe an apron!  This little child’s kitchen play set is the perfect  addition to your prim décor. How nice is it to have a child's toy that isn’t plastic, or pink, and you don’t have or hide it because it doesn't go with your décor??!! This is something that could become a family heirloom. Handed down to the next generation for years of enjoyment!

These kitchen sets are just some of the custom products that  hubby and I create. The one in the picture is one that we have in our home, for our grandchildren to play with when they come to visit. It goes with our home well and provides  plenty of creative interactive playtime. The stove  has two burners for “cooking” ,  moveable knobs, and  an oven door that opens with shelves underneath. There is also a sink  for the dishes, with moveable faucet handles. Under the sink is  a red over black prim cabinet with black strap hinges. Above the sink is a hand painted window scene with a little ledge. Next to the window is a hand made stitchery with a black frame.

Above the stove is a spice cabinet, complete with hand painted “wooden spices”.  Also includes is a “crock” spoon holder and  a small flower. The details are just amazing.

 

However if you do prefer pink, and what little girl doesn’t??!! We  have also made a few more custom kitchen sets that are a little more girly. This one here is  cottage looking and was made for my three year old granddaughter.

Her kitchen was designed with her moms kitchen in mind as to “match” her style of decorating. Moms kitchen is black and red so the little kitchen blends right in instead of sticking out like a “toy”.  It includes the same functions as the previous kitchen but has hand made curtains (fabric by Mary Engelbreit) . One set of curtains over the sink frames the “window”, and behind the curtains, the “window” is actually an 8 x 10 picture of the backyard of the house that my daughter grew up in Back East. This kitchen set also includes a black refrigerator and a towel bar on the side.

Another  kitchen set was designed for a one year old. This one is shorter and has a side table attached, perfect for tea parties! The bottom is designed with room to add trim as to be able to raise it when the child grows. These are gifts that will become permanent fixtures in your home for years to come.

Apple Cake

~When September rolls around my thoughts go towards apples…. anything apple! My family’s absolute favorite apple recipe is Apple Cake. My mom used to make this cake for lots of occasions and it has become one of our staples for fall. The recipe comes form the “More With Less” cookbook. One of my mother’s cook books that I  inherited but somehow was lost “ in the move”. The cake is really moist and can be kept refrigerated(mine never lasts very long). Hope that you try it and it becomes one of your new favorites.

Roman Apple Cake
Preheat oven to 350.
Combine in mixing bowl:
1 cup sugar
2 1/4 cups flour
1 /4 tsp. salt
3/8 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
Beat in:
2/3 cup margarine
2 eggs
2/3 cups milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Add:
3 cups raw apples, chopped small
Mix well. Pour into greased and floured 9x13" pan.
Cover with topping:
Crumble together:
1 Tbsp. melted margarine
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 tsp. flour
1/4 cups rolled oats.
Bake for 35-40 minutes.
