A Visit To The Shasta Dam~

The Shasta Dam~

The Shasta Dam is just a few miles down the road. This is where both of our son in laws work. All of the dams in this area are controlled by the government and are used to control water flow to the southern part of the state as well as produce hydro-electric power for the state. There is so much educational information as well as beautiful scenery here.

These are all of my own pics except for the one below.

dam from web

This pic above is from the web with Mount Shasta  in the background. The snow is still on the peak this time of year even with the high temps we have in the valley.

This shows the size of the dam. The Washington monument in the middle shows a size comparison .GEDC3465

In my last post I made a mention to how much we need to water our plants. This list below shows how much water for each item listed. It is hard to believe the water that it takes to produce these items.

There is a Lot of wildlife that lives around the dam. This is the nest of an Osprey. The mother was in the nest as well as the little ones. They sure were loud!! There are also Bald Eagles in this area and we weren’t sure which it was. The guys say they see Eagles as well as other wildlife all of the time, as they drive back and forth from the different dams in the area to check on dam performance.
