That time of year……for chicken soup and some baking

GEDC0096

Everyone that I talk to has had some sort of cold or flu. It’s that time of year. We have been taking Airborne and keeping cold medicine handy. Well the kids and grandkids have all had something lately. Our daughter had it bad yesterday, so we took the kids for the day so she could rest. We  also have and elderly couple in our church, and the wife has dementia and we have been helping him out by doing weekly meals. This was our week, so we made a big batch of chicken rice soup, biscuits and cranberry bread. We brought the meal to them and I also sent some home with the kiddos to my daughter.

I am al little tires and lazy this morning. (Just not used to a day with little ones). So anyway here  is the recipe for the cranberry orange bread. So yummy !

GEDC0100 (2)

The chicken soup is pretty easy~ I will share my recipe next time.

GEDC0080

We had lots of fun times with the kiddos. Layla and I did a little sewing. We made a pink heart for her and a little doll dress for her Barbie.

GEDC0086 (2)

Isaiah went out to the workshop with Papa and got to build with some wood scraps and tools.( Papa is busy working on some new projects for me. )They played hard, but didn’t want to rest. Surprise!

GEDC0083 (2)

While we were sewing we made a few more hearts to put around the house. A few here in my wall box.

And we tucked one in the arms of my favorite snowman.

I have been working on a few new items for spring. Not quite finished yet.  A little decorating for President’s day as well. Constant change. New pics next time. What have you all been up too??

I will leave you with a quote from the assistant principal at my children's High School. Every morning they would here this~

Days of wine and roses……and my New Shoes~ Go Pats…..

The weather has been so dreary here lately. We have had downpours. Many of you have had snow, especially north of us in Washington and Oregon. They really took a beating. We have been dumped on as well, but ours came as rain, and lots of it. We had more rain in just a few days, than we have had in months. I guess we are finally getting some winter and have passed our dry spell. Today the sun was out and it sure felt good.     GEDC0041

  I needed a little pick-me-up, so I went out and visited my favorite place to find flowers~ Trader Joes! They always have awesome bouquets and very inexpensive.

Flowers are the sweetest things God ever made, and forgot to put a soul into.  ~Henry Beecher

It did the trick! Sure made the room seem a little brighter.

"Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land."

GEDC0037

Tonight we will be having two of our grandchildren for the night. I have the hot cocoa mugs and popcorn all ready for them. Now to get the extra energy to keep up with them….hhhmmm. I have to work on that one. But fun we will have!! I think we will do some crafts, that is always entertaining.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow is a big day, for all of you football fans. We are cheering for the Pats over here. Once a New Englander always a New Englander. Although, everyone around us are “Niners” fans. Sooooo this should be interesting (especially for hubby who has to work with all of those dedicated fans)!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well off to make some goodies for the weekend, I am not quite sure what yet. Maybe I can get the kiddos to help me. YESSA!!! I am excited for a fun night. That’s all for now. Just want to share my new shoes with you though~ I will be wearing these tomorrow. Now will they go with my game jersey???

Have a blessed weekend!

Picture Trail…..sure could use some advice; and a few hearts

I don’t know what I am doing! I am trying all of this new technology, just don’t know much about it. I have created a picture trail. I have added some Fall and Christmas  pictures. Now I need to get some everyday ones on there, although my home is always decorated for some season. lol  If anyone has used it and has some help for me I would sure appreciate it. HERE is the link to the picture trail.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Right now I am trying to get things tweaked after the holidays and having so many decorations, it just seems a little empty. I have left up my little Christmas Tree and have added some hearts to it.
GEDC0015
I have also included my mini lanterns, they are so adorable, I just love them.
GEDC0019
I use them all around my home in different places. It still seemed empty so I have added some strips of homespun as well.
GEDC0020
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have also added some larger hearts on top of  my dining room hutch, along with the lights and greenery that I have left from Christmas.

 GEDC0001

GEDC0008

I have tucked them in among the crocks that I have displayed there.

GEDC0006

I have had some questions about my pottery lately, if you would like to see more I have a whole post  HERE. The crocks are Salmon Falls Pottery, and the blue one in the middle is one that I made in ceramics years ago when my Aunt Peggy had her ceramic studio open.

GEDC0007

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have also pulled out my Vermont Teddy Bears and have added them to the cabinet that we keep the grandchildren’s toys in.
GEDC0009
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have added a few hearts here and there……..

GEDC0032

~ and have tried to fill in where the Christmas tree was…..

GEDC0022

GEDC0030

….and I have moved in my bench that I have painted black. Well I am still moving things, so that is all for now.  I will be back soon with more pics, hopefully to put on my new picture trail.

Game day recipe……and pics with words

GEDC0210

After growing up in a home where my Dad was co-captain of the football team, and both sons played football all through the years, the game is usually always on!! We grew up in New England so we will always cheer  for the New England teams. It doesn't matter what  season, “the game is on”!!

With all of those games, come hungry guys! So today I thought  I would share one of our new favorites recipes. It is called…..

GEDC0201

 One Pot Dinner

Combine in pan- one chopped onion and 2 tablespoons of oil; add one pound of  hamburg and half pound of bacon (I cheat and use pre-cooked)    - cook all until done- (I also season mine with mesquite grill mates seasoning and salt and pepper)

In crock pot combine:

2~ 30 oz  cans of Pork and Beans (or any flavor you prefer- I used maple cured bacon flavored)

2~ 15 oz can of Butter Beans

2~ 15 oz cans Red Kidney Beans

1 cup of ketchup

1/2 cup of brown sugar

add hamburger mixture and simmer on low 8 hours or high 3-4 hours

GEDC0209

So simple~ Enjoy!

I have been busy putting things back in order from the holidays. Tweaking and moving things. I will be back soon with some more home pics for you. On facebook at the  Primitive Pantry, we were asked for some pics of items around the house with sayings or words on them. I have a few I will share with you here.

New beginnings; aren’t they wonderful!?! A chance to start fresh. Taking walks, eating healthy, beginning the year with a clean house. It just refreshes the soul.

This week my daughters, grandchildren and I started walking. The weather has so warm, and the sky is so blue and clear! This photo is the lake that we have started walking around. Such a beautiful view with the mountains with snow in the background.

GEDC0120

GEDC0115

There was so much to see, ducks, birds, and wildlife everywhere. We spotted three quail in this bush. They were camera shy!!

GEDC0119

We were able to feed the ducks though, they were very eager to come visit. The kids were so excited to see them up close. It was so much fun to share nature with them and also to teach them a little about exercising and keeping healthy.

GEDC0118

GEDC0117

We are also trying to eat a little more healthy, nothing extravagant, just back to the basics of wholesome eating. This chicken stir fry is one of my favorites and I thought that I would share the recipe with you. I serve it with rice. Wet sticky rice! I have one of those wonderful inventions!! A rice cooker!! It is so easy to do, all you do is add the rice and water in the pot and plug it in and “voila”, in 30 minutes you have fresh sticky rice.You can always serve with chow mein noodles(my hubby’s favorite). Of course that will add extra fat, but they are so good.

GEDC0123

Chicken Stir Fry

(This makes a large pan full~ cut down the recipe for a smaller amount)

I am listing the ingredients and instructions together. I begin at the top and start adding items ending with the pineapple. Make sure the first few items are almost cooked, then add next ingredient, and so on.

2 tablespoons oil (I use olive oil)

1/2 large onion

1 green pepper

sauté in oil

add 3 or 4 boneless chicken breast (cut into thin slices)

add a few tablespoons of teriyaki sauce, and all of the juice from a can of pineapple chunks

add 6 carrots ~sliced thin

1 cup of broccoli (I never measure)

1 small zucchini ~sliced thin

1 small summer squash ~sliced thin

1 can of La Choy bean sprouts

1 can of pineapple

Serve over rice.
